Custom Design Process

Explore my portfolio and jewelry collection online or in person to decide if my style is what you have been looking for. Please note that I will not copy, replicate, or repair jewelry that was not made by me.

Plan ahead: Please allow 2 to 4 months from beginning to end for the design and making process. I will discuss the timeline with you during the free consultation before you commit to working with me, as my schedule varies based on demand.

Your Design Journey

Your Design Journey

30-Minute Consultation

We begin with a free 30-minute preliminary consultation to review your custom request (covering items such as budget, timeline, and design). This can occur over the phone, virtually, or in-person.

Appointment Day: All 30-minute consultations happen Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. You will have my undivided attention during the meeting.

Note: For all custom inquiries, I kindly ask that this 30-minute consultation be scheduled in advance. Because my studio production schedule is often quite full, I’m unfortunately unable to accommodate walk-ins for custom projects. If you’d simply like to browse and shop the collection in person, you’re always welcome to stop by during regular store hours — no appointment needed.

90-Minute Design Session

Next is a dedicated 1 1/2 hour session where we work one-on-one to define your design. To book this meeting, I require a $500 non-refundable design fee. This design fee is credited toward your final cost.

During this session, I will have an assortment of beverages, hot or cold, awaiting you. Together we'll review 1-3 concepts with price ranges, based on your approved budget and items discussed during the previous consultation. If needed, I’ll create 3–5 renderings with official quotes sent after. The timeline for your project will be confirmed during this meeting.

Bring items reviewed during our preliminary discussions including design ideas and any heirloom jewelry/gems related to the piece.

Appointment Day: These meetings can occur on either Wednesdays or Thursdays when the shop is closed to the public, or on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday when the shop is open. If we meet on the weekend, expect occasional customers to be present in the shop during our meeting. You will have my undivided attention regardless of day. While many meetings conclude in less than 90 minutes, please allow up to 90 minutes for your appointment.

Note: If I'm sourcing stones for you, I will do my best to have options to preview during the 90-minute session - however additional meetings may be required to select/approve stones in person.

Payment: Once final design is approved, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required to officially lock in your placement on my studio calendar. The remaining balance is due upon pickup or prior to shipping.

It's On My Bench

I will contact you when I start working on your piece and send regular updates on the progress as I carve the wax, cast the piece, set the stones, and finish the design.

Note: You may be asked to approve the wax and in some cases approval may need to be in person, depending on the nature of the design. I can also send images/video for you to see the progress when it's feasible.

Custom FAQ'S

Custom Options

What does Amanda's custom design work consist of?

I offer limited custom options which include bespoke pieces, heirloom revivals, and tweaked designs. You can find more information on the Custom Design Options page.

Can you replicate an earring to replace a lost one?

No - I only create new designs in my design aesthetic and/or tweak existing designs in my collection. I will not copy, replicate, or repair jewelry that is not made by me.

Heirloom Redesign

Will working with my old jewelry save me on the overall cost of the project?

While repurposing heirloom diamonds or gemstones can reduce the cost of purchasing new materials, the majority of a custom piece's value lies in the craftsmanship and labor, not the materials themselves. Every design is created from scratch, requiring hours of consultation, design development, stone assessment, hand fabrication, casting, setting, finishing, and quality control. Existing jewelry often must also be carefully disassembled and evaluated before its materials can be safely incorporated into a new design. You're not simply paying for gold or gemstones - you're investing in the time, expertise, and artistry required to transform sentimental pieces into a one-of-a-kind heirloom. We will work with you to discuss budget expectations at the outset of your project.

What parts of my old jewelry will Amanda use in an heirloom redesign?

I will work with your gems on a case-by-case basis. Gem removal depends on the setting and gem type; pearls and some fragile stones may not be removable.

I do not work with the metal (explained on our main FAQ Page). We offer a gold credit program for any solid gold pieces (subject to testing) that can be used as a credit toward a custom design.

Can you tell me what my gemstones are or the value of my old jewelry?

As I’m not a gemologist, I can’t assess specific gem type or value and I currently do not offer appraisal services. I'm happy to provide recommendations. I do recommend having your jewelry appraised prior to any heirloom revival project.

Turn Around Time

What is the current turnaround time?

Please allow 2-4 months for any custom project. Expected date of completion is reviewing during our meetings. Occasionally, I can accommodate a faster turnaround depending on the simplicity of the design and my studio calendar.

General Questions

Where can I find answers to general questions about repairs, cleaning, etc?

Gift a loved one the experience of creating something entirely their own. Whether they're dreaming of an engagement ring, redesigning a cherished heirloom, or bringing a long-held idea to life, a custom design experience with me is an invitation to collaborate on a piece that can never be replicated.

Of course, you're encouraged to join them for this experience! Because the most meaningful jewelry isn't just given - it's created together.
