Moving The Needle, Ever So Slowly

It’s been since April that I last shared updates on my new showroom & atelier in Georgetown. Things slowed down after the main cosmetic work wrapped up, as we’ve been waiting on custom items with longer lead times.

Those pieces have begun arriving, though not without hiccups. To say I’ve been a bit distracted and overwhelmed lately is an understatement, but I know the renovation stress will be worth it in the end.

Home Away From Home

Prospect St is slowly starting to feel like home. With each detail we add to the space, Adam and I feel a growing sense of pride and ownership. We spent several days customizing and prepping my new atelier. At first, moving my entire workspace felt daunting, but the cozy, well-thought-out studio we’re creating makes me think the transition will be fairly smooth, hopefully! I especially can’t wait to break in my new jeweler’s bench.

Unfortunately, moving studio equipment has to be the last step. I can’t work in the new space until I receive a certificate of occupancy, which requires all work permits to be closed out. So, I’ll continue working from my current studio until I get the final go-ahead.

The Harder The Struggle, The More Glorious The Triumph

The list of things that have gone wrong keeps growing. From what I’ve heard, anyone who’s opened a storefront, especially one they’ve bought and renovated, will tell you it more often than not comes with challenges. Luckily, all of my challenges have solutions, just at the cost of more time.

I won’t get into all the renovation hiccups here, but I’d be lying if I said there haven’t been tough days. When setbacks pile up, it’s hard to feel inspired to create. I’ve been distracted and unable to fully devote myself daily to what I love most - making jewelry. But this shop is my creation right now, and it means the world to me. In my eyes, it’s a jewel of its own, and a super project. I remind myself how lucky I am to have a space that will showcase my work like never before.

That makes all the stress worth it. One day, this renovation phase will just be a blip. AND there are new jewels coming this summer! :)

Coming Together

As each piece falls into place, the space is really starting to take shape. It still feels a bit like a shell as we work through a few snafus, but it’s going to be something special, and I can’t wait to share it with you!

I’m still aiming for a summer opening. Whether July happens is still up in the air, but I’m hopeful. You’ll be the first to know!

Cheers to the start of summer - go treat yourself to some ice cream! I’ll be back with more updates soon. Please send all the positive vibes my way as I wrap up the final touches - including a beautiful new entry door - hopefully coming SOON!

Can’t wait to welcome you to 3259 Prospect St NW, new home of Amanda Hagerman Jewelry.

Cheers,
Amanda

You will totally love it, and in the end it will be worth all the angst it has caused! That said, it will take you a little time to forgive all those sources of grief. :) Can’t wait to see it!!
